About the Authors:

Roanne Weisman is an award-winning medical/science author of seven trade health books published by McGraw-Hill and Harvard Medical School, as well as Health Communications, Inc. Her co-authors include faculty of Harvard Medical School and leading academic medical centers. Her feature stories have appeared in magazines including Prevention, Country Living, Alternative Medicine, and Body and Soul, as well as magazines of Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both teaching institutions of Harvard Medical School. She also writes regularly for online health education sites. She is the principal of Words That Work, which provides communications consulting and editorial services to large organizations.

Barbara Kivowitz, MSW, is a psychotherapist and consultant.  As a therapist in a community mental health center and an advisor to a hospice program, Barbara helped many couples with the difficult task of facing illness. Her articles on couples, illness, and living with pain have been published in Women’s Day and the journal of the American Pain Foundation. Well versed in management issues (she is co-author of The Manager’s Pocket Guide to Knowledge Management, HRD Press) Barbara brings clarity to complex situations. Since 2007 she has blogged about couples and illness at www.InSicknessInHealth.blogspot.com, nominated for “best literary blog” and “best patient blog”. She is on the board of trustees of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and holds a graduate degree from Harvard University in Romance Languages and Literatures.  Very importantly, Barbara is personally all too familiar with what happens when a couple struggles to cope with ill health.
